Had a wonderful stay in a clean, comfortable single room. Felt the noise from the pub during the evening hours.

had the misfortune of getting a room with no space to hang clothes or place a bedside table, which was absolutely ridiculous! No breakfast served and the bathroom was like a shoebox. I was hoping for an upgrade or at least a complimentary gesture, but of course that was too much to ask.

The decor of the inn is charming, adding to the overall
Atmosphere of comfort and warmth. Richard, the landlord, truly provides personalized service that makes you feel special. Breakfast choices were ample and well-prepared. the steps leading to the beer garden could use a safety rail for ease of access.

the dog inn was super dog friendly, had a great vibe and the beds were comfy. breakfast was amazin with lots of tasty options and the staff was really chill and welcoming. loved the garden where my pup could run around, and the location was perfect for strolls into town. the room was spacious and had all the necessities like tea, coffee and clean towels. richard, the owner, is just a legend and recommended some fab places to eat.
only a bit noisy at night because of other guests, and it would've been nice if there were evening meals offered.

Dog-friendly policies, vintage pub character, proximity to Halstead town center
The cleanliness levels left much to be desired!!! The outdated room decor and the poor condition of bathroom facilities really need attention!!! the lack of evening meals was disappointing!!!

Solo traveler, great little pub
There was this moment at breakfast where Richard served us this perfect fried breakfast, local produce made it taste even better. The bar area, where we had breakfast, was decorated with loads of character, really homey vibe, made me feel welcome.
It wasn’t exactly inexpensive, but the experience was still worth it.

Absolutely loved my stay! The breakfast was a highlight, especially the full English—so delicious! My room was spotless and had a modern ensuite, a nice surprise. Only downside was a slight concern over late evening noise, but it wasn't bothersome enough to ruin my great experience. I'd definitely choose this place again!

The single room offered a bright and clean space, equipped with a comfy bed and a lovely ensuite. The hearty full English breakfast made with local ingredients was a delightful start to the day. Although the ambience of the busy bar raised concerns about potential noise, the soundproofing worked wonders, allowing for a peaceful night's sleep. On the downside, amenities around the area could be limited in the evening, and the lack of food options on-site was a bit disappointing.

We stayed with family, and the local pub had a friendly vibe. Richard, the landlord, was approachable and full of humor, making our two nights enjoyable. The room was cozy and just a short drive away from Colchester Zoo, which was a hit with the kids.
My kids wished for more evening dining options.
